about

The twisted tale of ill-fated love written and performed by Charlie Wood

lyrics

When Bob met Heather he knew it was forever
From her hair to the leather of her boots
It was only just the start but a flower in his heart
Burst open and began to grow roots

When Heather saw Bob, she thought “Oh good god!
He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!”
As he caught her eyes, she could not disguise
She wanted them to have nothing in between

First and second date, things were going just great
So much in common and so much to discover
Such a deep connection, such immediate affection
A clear direction for the star-crossed lovers

Just three months in they were living in sin
They were talking about a wedding in June
They set all aside as they crawled inside
The depths of their lover’s cocoon

She’d sing “Boundless are the tides of my love,
I am wrecked on the shores of your heart”
And he’d sing “It is you for whom I’ve waited,
All my hunger that you’ve satiated
without you I would simply fall apart”

A thought occurred to Heather, she would tether them together
And bind them forever with a string
But along came the weather, started weathering the tether
And the pair fell apart in the wind

So then thought Bob, I know just the job
And he went to the kitchen for a knife
Heather started to laugh as she saw her other half
Planning to become one with his wife

With surgeon’s precision they both made and incision
Down their ribs to the top of their hips
Then together they pressed, the wound was sewn and dressed
They were forever now in each other’s grips

After quite a lot of bleeding the join started healing
Scar tissue’s not an issue in love
They truly enjoyed that they were fully conjoined
They were finally just close enough

And they sang “Boundless are the tides of my love,
I am wrecked on the shores of your heart”
And they’d sing “It is you for whom I’ve waited,
All my hunger that you’ve satiated
without you I would simply fall apart”

Some time did pass, and while their love did last
Certain tasks were much harder to achieve
But it was their dream to share one bloodstream
Until one midsummers eve…

When Bob saw Tess, the couple’s neighbour to the left
Tending flowers as the day grew dark
So beautiful he thought her that she might as well be watering
The flower that was growing in his heart

He tried and yet he could not forget
The sight of Tess in her gardening gloves
Such a big guilt trip when you’re joined at the hip
With the one you promised ever lasting love

Heather didn’t really notice that Bob couldn’t focus
On anything except next door
To her nothing seemed amiss in her sewn together bliss
Until Bob couldn’t stand it anymore

He felt so smothered, smuggled under the covers
The knife that had begun this dilemma
And as she slept that night he severed heather from his side
Cut the bonds they thought would last forever

As she dreamt and bled Bob exited the bed
Went next door and knocked three times
With his new liberation and with great anticipation
He began to sing the familiar lines

He sang “Boundless are the tides of my love,
I am wrecked on the shores of your heart”
“It is you for whom I’ve wait,
All my hunger you will satiate
without you I will simply fall apart”

He was shocked when it was answered by Tess’s long term partner
He just stood there, his eyes gone wide
She called back behind, said “it’s the guy from number nine
He’s singing and bleeding from his side”

Epilogue

Neither Heather nor Bob survived the botched knife job
Without each other they just fell apart
But this could’ve been avoided if they’d made different choices
And not fallen for the madness of the heart

And the madness goes

“Boundless are the tides of my love,
I am wrecked on the shores of your heart”
“It is you for whom I’ve waited,
All my hunger that you’ve satiated
without you I would simply fall apart”
